The world’s longest flight…
Just arrived at the Taipei airport after a very long 13 hour flight. For some reason the air-conditioning was blasting the entire time. The seats were really uncomfortable, so I didn’t get much sleep, but I feel surprisingly well.
We get to hangout in the Taipei airport for a couple hours until we hop our flight for Jakarta. I can’t believe I’ve finally made it to Asia! Yay!

The day’s finally here, and in about an hour I’ll be on the plane bound for Indonesia. Wow. Everything feels surreal… of course that could be in part due to sleep deprivation (up ’til past 4 this morning trying to clean the old house, after getting about 3 hours of sleep the night before). Billy and I have the majority of our remaining belongings in a 5′x5′ storage space. It’s a very strange feeling when you can sell/give away/throw away enough of your belongings to fit the things that matter to you into a space that’s only 25 square feet.
We have a 13 hour flight ahead and a 3 hour layover in Taipei, then a 3 or 4 hour flight to Jakarta. The school is sending a driver to pick us up at the airport in Jakarta, then we’ll have about a 2 hour drive to Bandung. We’ve got a long night/day ahead.

Billy and I got our new laptops today, and I’ve spent the majority of the day playing with mine. Yay!

Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day, so we decided to head up to Deception Pass with our friends Lucas and Mari, and Mari’s daughter Miette. We’re trying to really enjoy the natural beauty in the Puget Sound area before we leave. Here are a few pictures from yesterday:
When we were hiking we saw an owl fly from one tree to another. He (or she?) sat and watched us for a while, then flew off. It was really cool, but unfortunately the pictures didn’t turn out.

We’ll be leaving on April 30th. Wow… so much to do, and so little time. Eek!

It’s funny that even without leaving Seattle, I already miss it. I’ve been living in Ballard for 5 years. Now that I think about it, I moved to Ballard exactly 5 years ago this weekend. How time flies…
It’s makes me a little sad when I look out at my garden and see all the plants coming up, knowing that I won’t be here to see many of them bloom this year. There are some that I’ve grown from seeds, some I’ve received from friends, and others I’ve gotten from my Grandmother’s garden. Hopefully the next people that live here will enjoy them.
For the past 4 years there’ve been a pair of Mallard ducks that visit our yard each Spring. I was thinking of them just a few days ago, and wondering if they’d return this year. Today I saw them land in the neighbors’ yard, and when I went outside they waddled up to me and followed me over to a dish where I’ve given them water for the past few years. I guess I can’t be sure it’s the same pair each year, but I like to believe it is… like they think of my yard as a sanctuary where they can relax for a few weeks, before they go off to have their next round of babies.
On a different note… Tomorrow’s my first Monday of being unemployed in Seattle. Billy and I are planning to celebrate our freedom by going out bowling in the morning. Of course, for those of you that know me, you know that by “morning” I mean around 10:00.
