Hey,

Sorry to have to do this, but you’ll need to register with my site and login now to be able to post comments.  I’ve been getting a bunch of bogus comment postings with links to cheap medications and random stuff like that.

Thanks!

Singapore pics

June 8th, 2007

Here are a few pics from Singapore…

Everything’s illegal in Singapore.  Here’s a sign from the MRT (subway):

A picture of Durians (note that they aren’t allowed on the MRT)…  They smell really bad…  like something dead and rotting.  I did try some though when one of the local teachers at my school brought some in.  It tastes pretty good, but the texture is very odd.  Under it’s spiky skin it’s almost like a very ripe banana with a goopy custard center.  Worth trying once…

I guess this is like a public service announcement?  Singapore is pretty big on trying to keep the general public scared into doing what’s right…

Sunset from our balcony

May 29th, 2007

I realized the other day that I hadn’t actually watched a sunset since I’ve been in Bandung.  I usually have classes until 7:30 pm during the week, and the sun sets here around 5:30…  that only leaves a couple of chances each week to watch the sunset…  and our weekends have been packed lately.  I was at home last Saturday, and made it a point to be out on the balcony to watch the sunset…  Unfortunately it was somewhat overcast, and I think someone in the valley was burning their crops, so there was a lot of smoke in the air…  and the sunset wasn’t very spectacular.  Here’s a picture of it anyway.

It’s not just a vacation…

We moved into our house on Monday.  It’s now white throughout with white tiles.  It looks like a different house than the one we looked at a couple weeks ago.  Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos before the owners painted it.  I’ve only taken a few pics of it since we moved in.  Here’s the view from our balcony.

Hooray! It’s Friday!

May 11th, 2007

I’ve been fighting a cold the last few days, but I think I’m starting to feel better… and just in time for the weekend.

Billy put a deposit down on the “rainbow house” today, and we should be able to move in Monday morning. Yay!

Happy Friday everybody!

New Laptop! Woohoo!

Billy and I got our new laptops today, and I’ve spent the majority of the day playing with mine. Yay!

Sunny day at Deception Pass

April 7th, 2007

Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day, so we decided to head up to Deception Pass with our friends Lucas and Mari, and Mari’s daughter Miette. We’re trying to really enjoy the natural beauty in the Puget Sound area before we leave. Here are a few pictures from yesterday:

When we were hiking we saw an owl fly from one tree to another.  He (or she?) sat and watched us for a while, then flew off.  It was really cool, but unfortunately the pictures didn’t turn out.

We’ve got our plane tickets

We’ll be leaving on April 30th.  Wow…  so much to do, and so little time.  Eek!

How can I miss Seattle if I haven’t left yet?

April 1st, 2007

It’s funny that even without leaving Seattle, I already miss it. I’ve been living in Ballard for 5 years. Now that I think about it, I moved to Ballard exactly 5 years ago this weekend. How time flies…

It’s makes me a little sad when I look out at my garden and see all the plants coming up, knowing that I won’t be here to see many of them bloom this year. There are some that I’ve grown from seeds, some I’ve received from friends, and others I’ve gotten from my Grandmother’s garden. Hopefully the next people that live here will enjoy them.

For the past 4 years there’ve been a pair of Mallard ducks that visit our yard each Spring. I was thinking of them just a few days ago, and wondering if they’d return this year. Today I saw them land in the neighbors’ yard, and when I went outside they waddled up to me and followed me over to a dish where I’ve given them water for the past few years. I guess I can’t be sure it’s the same pair each year, but I like to believe it is… like they think of my yard as a sanctuary where they can relax for a few weeks, before they go off to have their next round of babies.

On a different note… Tomorrow’s my first Monday of being unemployed in Seattle. Billy and I are planning to celebrate our freedom by going out bowling in the morning. Of course, for those of you that know me, you know that by “morning” I mean around 10:00. ;)

Cheers!

Thanks to all my former co-workers that came out to Red Hook with me last night to wish me well. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to work with so many great people over the years, and I’ll miss you very much.

MJ – What’s with ordering a Blonde, and not even finishing it? ;)

Cheers!
